There’s Still Time to Change the Road You’re On

I love it when the universe speaks to me through song lyrics. If you don’t recognize the title of this article, it’s one of the lyrics from the old classic song called “Stairway to Heaven” (Led Zeppelin, 1971).

A couple of days ago I had to spend a good amount of time in the car driving around as I ran errands, and at one point this song came on the radio. I’ve heard it hundreds, probably thousands of times before but on this particular day, one verse seemed to jump out at me and I knew I needed to write something about it.

“There’s still time to change the road you’re on.”

Have you ever felt stuck in a situation that was really frustrating or upsetting? And you kept trying to change the situation but it just wouldn’t work no matter what you did?

And then finally, you started changing your thoughts about it. Maybe you spent some time visualizing the situation being better, or you started meditating to help relieve some of your tension, or you used some good resistance-releasing exercises to help you feel better…and then POOF! The situation suddenly changed for the better and it was almost magical the way it happened.

When this happens, it is so mind-blowing. You suddenly realize that physical reality is NOT as solid and stable as you think it is.

Like many other people, you may see your life circumstances as being solid; static; real; fixed; permanent most of the time. But they are not at all!

Once you have spent a fair amount of time working with the power of thought, you start to realize that physical reality is very malleable and flexible. It can be shifted and formed and molded into something quite different than you started with.

Have you ever manifested something that just took your breath away and made you gasp in surprise? It doesn’t even have to be anything big, but the way it came to you was so unexpected that it filled you with awe? If you have, then you’ll know what I mean by how fleeting physical reality is!

I have seen hopeless situations completely turn around, and challenges and obstacles melt away. I have seen stubborn people undergo a complete change in attitude, and I’ve seen new, wonderful circumstances just “pop in” like magic.

It happens way more than you might think, and that’s because physical reality is just an illusion. That doesn’t mean it’s not “real”. It’s very real. But it’s a PERCEPTION that you are holding right now, more than anything else.

Your current circumstances are actually a reflection of your PREVIOUS thoughts! The thoughts you thought weeks ago, months ago, years ago…those have molded and shaped your reality so that it now reflects the content of those thoughts back to you.

However, you’ll be glad to know that your perceptions are VERY changeable, and they can be changed FAST!

You may have to work through your doubt and start building up your willingness to do the mental work required, but when you start working on that, you will literally “change the road you’re on”.

So that’s my message to you today. If you are struggling with doubt or feeling powerless about being able to change your circumstances, or even if you just feel stuck at the moment, I (and Led Zeppelin) would like to remind you that there’s still time to change the road you’re on!

It doesn’t matter how bad a situation has gotten, or how far you have veered off of the road you WANTED to be on. You can still change it.

Physical reality can shift and change into something much better, and it can happen quickly.

All you need to do is create an INNER shift. That might be taking a few hours to meditate and breathe. It might be taking more time to play and have fun. It might be reciting a simple mantra like, “I allow miracles in my life.”

Sometimes the smallest things can trigger the biggest, most welcome changes!

Just remember that “changing the road you’re on” means changing YOUR PERCEPTION of the road, not necessarily changing the road itself.

“If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” – Wayne Dyer
