Positive Attitude: Stretching Your
Our abilities in life are directly proportional to our beliefs. This is a lesson I've been learning first hand
over the past week. So many of us don't realize that our own concept of limitations is what holds us back 99% of
As I wrote in an email to a friend recently, "For most of my life, I've felt like a kid standing next to a
bicycle, saying, 'Boy, I wish I could ride one of those.' Actually climbing ON and trying never occurred to me." I
had the thought set in my mind that I couldn't do certain things, so I didn't even try. Once I decided to give it a
go, I discovered that not only could I do these things, they came fairly easy to me. What a lesson.
Ah, but it gets even better. Once you have an experience like this, you automatically begin to ponder what
else you're capable of. Suddenly there seem to be no limitations. Your very perception of reality is altered. As
the character Morpheus said to Neo in the movie, "The Matrix" -- "What is real? Only that which you can smell,
touch or taste?" [paraphrased]
Thoughts are intangible, but we know they are real. Dreams are intangible but also real. So it follows that your
Dreams (hopes, deepest heart's desires) are also real. Which means you can create them in this lifetime, right
here, right now. The two questions facing you are:
1) Do I WANT to create them?
2) Do I believe I CAN create them?
If your answer to either of those questions is "no" - guess what? You will not create them. Your own mind is
saying that it's not possible, so it will not be possible.
If your answer to these questions is "yes", what now? How do you create what you want?
Take the logical steps - If you want to be a pilot, you obviously wouldn't just hop into a plane and try flying
it. There is a learning curve invovled. You would take classes, observe your instructor flying, and then in little
bits you would operate the plane yourself. Manifesting our heart's desires is not like waving a magic wand and
having it magically appear. It happens in stages. Even if you were able to magically create what you want, you
probably wouldn't be mentally prepared to accept it - or know what to do with it when it arrived.
Take the Leap - After your classroom instruction and practice flights with your instructor, there will come a
moment when you alone will be flying that plane. Here is where you "take the leap" and trust in your own abilities.
By this time, you know you can fly that plane. You've learned all about the mechanical and navigational aspects of
the plane. You've watched your instructor fly many times, and you have flown yourself, with your instructor
present. But now it's all on you. Sure, there is probably a little fear in your heart. Self-doubt comes creeping
in: "What if I forget all my training? What if the plane malfunctions? Am I crazy for trying this?" But as the
moments pass and you realize you're doing it - exhilaration takes over. There is no greater feeling in the world.
Suddenly anything seems possible.
I want that for you. I want you to smash your self-limitations to bits. I believe that you are capable of so
much more than you're doing right now. The question is, do you?
